Lettie Mae Kirkland, 76, of Chippewa Township, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. She passed away peacefully at Heritage Valley Beaver, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born August 29, 1940, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Dozier and Kathleen Blackmon of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents, Lettie Mae was preceded in death by her daughter, Roberta Ann Kirkland, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and her brother, Ernest (Butch) Blackmon, Buffalo, New York.
She retired from Westinghouse Cutler Hammer as a machine operator after 34 years. She attended Aliquippa High School. She also attended Second Baptist Church, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
She was a great woman of faith, always encouraging other people to be the best that they could be, believing that God can do anything but fail. She has faithfully served her family as a wife, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and relative. She was loving and compassionate, and a student of God’s Word. She was also one to give instruction and correction. She gathered her strength from the authority of God’s Word. Everything she did was to glorify God. She has left a fine example of how to live by her words and actions. She has fought a good fight. She has finished her course. Now, she can enter into her rest. She has now come to the time for which she lived. This is not the end, but the beginning. Our comfort lies in the truth … “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Her presence was a powerful inspiration, and her memory also.
Leaving to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 57 years, Herman B. Kirkland Jr., Chippewa Township, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; a son, Robert A. Kirkland of Rochester, New York; her grandson, Chad E. Kirkland, Rochester, New York; brother, David (Candyman) Blackmon, Hamilton, Ontario; sister, Sherry (Tellis) Kimbrough, Rochester, New York, and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation for the outpouring of love, prayers and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually, but including: the doctors and staff at Heritage Valley Beaver for their attentiveness and loving care and Washington Funeral Home and Cremation in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, family and friends either through prayer and/or visits, and neighbors.
Viewing will be Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the Home going celebration service of her life will follow at 12 at WASHINGTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS. Regina Washington Supervisor
