Mary Jane Ryan

Mary Jane Ryan, 74 of Beaver Falls, PA passed away peacefully at The Good Samaritan Hospice Heritage Valley Beaver on July 22, 2022. She was born on December 19, 1947, to the late Joseph and Antionia Szczurko.

Mary Jane worked at the Beaver Falls High School as an English Teacher for many years until retirement. She was a champion for her students and a pillar in her community. Due to her thirst for knowledge, she became an avid reader! One of her mottos could easily had been “Read, Read, Read”! Some of Mary Jane’s many accomplishments are as noted; she was an active member of the St. Monica Perish, (AAUW) American Association for University Woman, Outlook Club, Beaver Falls Woman Society, Beaver Falls Woman Business Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Friends for Jesus, (COC) Christian Mothers Neighborhood Watch, VSP Adoration Chapel, and that’s just to name a few. In her spare time, she would paint, watch movies, go to concerts, and became a sports fan for Beaver Falls, and Steelers fan. She also, was head of the Beaver Falls High School Usher’s Club where she mentored and touched so many young ladies lives throughout the years; and the Big Beaver Falls Education Foundation. But what brought Mary Jane her most joy, was time spent with her daughters and grandson.

For those of you whose lives she touched, find comfort in the knowledge that her bright spirit, compassion, and kindness lives on in others.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the PAM unit and Good Samaritan Hospice Heritage Valley Beaver for all the love and care given to Mary Jane.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Karlin “Butch” Ryan. Son in law: Frank N. White. Brother: Joseph Zurku. Mother in law: Winifred Caracter. Sister in laws: Eileen Zurku, June Carper, and Lily Ryan. Brother in laws: Duane Ryan and Dwight Ryan.

Mary Jane is survived by her loving daughters: Nadia Ryan and Olivia Ryan. Grandson: Dmitri McDowell. Stepdaughter: Jodee Nicols. Stepsons: Brett Hall, Drew Hall and Hank Nicols. Sister in law: Judith Ryan. Devoted friends: Donna Paisley, Paulette Potter, Elise Farthing, Carol Welsh, Geraldine Selby, Jonelle McMillen, Meta Hogue, Bonnie Reyes and Beth Pomerantz. Host the Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousin and other Relatives and Friends.

A Wake will be held on Thursday, July 28th, 2022, from 2PM – 4PM and 6PM – 87PM Washington Funeral Home 1411 6th Ave Beaver Falls, PA a Mass will be held on Friday, July 29th at 10AM St. Monica Roman Catholic Parish 116 Thorndale Dr. Beaver Falls, PA.

George Edward Brown

George Edward Brown (91), born December 24, 1930 of Beaver Falls Pennsylvania went home to be with the Lord July 7, 2022 at Heritage Valley Hospital in Beaver PA. .

He was the owner of a local cleaning company, as well as being an accomplished plasterer, and a machinist for Babcock and Wilcox where he retired after in 20 years
in 1986. George was a member of St John Wayman AME Church in Bridgewater, before the merger he served on the Stuart, and trustee boards of Wayman in New Brighton.
He loved and cared for, his grandchildren, you would often see him with one of them everywhere he went.

He is preceded in death by his Wife Lillian, Father James Brown, Mother Eva Brown, Sister, Veronica Jeannine Kelly, Brother Keith Brown, Daughters Henrietta Gibbs,
Billy Gibbs, Marcella Gibbs, Veronica Jeannine Brown, Sons Thomas Gibbs, and Bruce Gibbs.

He is survived by his Daughter Carol Padgett, Sons Zachary Gibbs, Timothy (Annette) Brown, James Franklin (Valerie) Brown. A host of Grandchildren, and
Nieces and Nephews.
George will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be held on July 16th 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1 p.m. at St John Wayman AME Church 715 Mulberry Street Bridgewater Pennsylvania 15009

Barbara Ann Smith

Barbara Ann Smith, 73 of New Brighton, PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 26, 2022 in Heritage Valley Beaver Good Samaritan Hospice. Barbara was born on December 25, 1948 to the late Elmer and Betty (Wallace) Smith Sr.

Barbara earned her degree in Fashion Design. She also enjoyed sewing and making picture collages. Barbara lived in Germany for several years, before moving to Washington DC, where she worked for the government as an administrative assistance. Eventually Barbara relocated back to Beaver County where she worked for the Women’s Center in Beaver, PA. After retirement she spent her time with her family and her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Hospice staff for all the loving and quality care given to Barbara in her time of need.

Barbara is proceeded in death by her parents and grandparents, Douglas and Annie Wallace, brothers: Elmer, Gregory, and Bert Smith.

Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memories loving Sons: Michael and Keith Jones. Daughter: Dana Jones; all of New Brighton, PA. Grandchildren: Derrel Rogers, Sharron Moreland, Dontae Lay, Aeryana Dunham, Latasha Jones, Lakeisha Hocog and 6 Great-grandchildren. Sister: Debra (Nate) Lee of Aliquippa, PA and Leslie (Herb) Ellis of Rochester, PA. Aunts: Linda, Dorothy and Pauline Smith. Special Cousin Vivian Sims and Niece Richeal Hendon Miller – whom she loved like a daughter. Sister-in-law Renee Smith. Nieces: Tiarra Smith and Letitia Smith Johnson. Nephews: Steven Smith, Chris Hendon and Andre Smith. Ex-Husband Harold Jones, and a host of cousins, family and friends.
